Tilted Kilt abruptly closes

The Tilted Kilt, 1051 S. Washburn St., abruptly closed today, citing the weather and two tough quarters for bringing its seven-year run in Oshkosh to an end.

Our Appleton counterpart, The Buzz, got an e-mail from TK’s Bruce Gerondale announcing the sudden decision to close the restaurant without any word on if the same fate awaits the Green Bay location or if there’s any recourse for gift card holders.

Overall, the last 12-15 months have been … rough on restaurateurs of all sorts. It appears those that offer so-so bar and grill fare served up by oversexed and under-dressed waitresses: Hooters closed its Grand Chute and Green Bay locations almost a year ago. Now, it’s Tilted Kilt’s turn.

The location doesn’t appear likely to stay dormant for very long, though. In his e-mail, Gerondale said he hopes to reopen with a new concept.
