Longtime Petri press secretary retiring

After more than 30 years as Rep. Tom Petri’s press secretary, Niel Wright will retire this month.

Wright worked for the congressman for almost 32 years, and was his press secretary for all but the first year-and-a-half. His first job with the office was helping Petri with his mail.

“In retirement, I plan to get a lot more exercise, learn Spanish, travel with my kids, and explore a lot of interests that I’ve had to leave on the back burner,” Wright said in an email. “I will miss all of the good Wisconsin people I have come to know over the years.”

Lee Brooks will serve as Petri’s new spokesman. Brooks¬†started as an intern for Petri’s office in September 2009, and then served as a legislative correspondent from January 2010 through September 2011.¬†From September 2011 until this month, Brooks worked as a legislative assistant for Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif.
