FAA delays Wittman tower cuts until June

Wittman Regional Airport and 148 other airports across the United States will avoid air traffic control tower staff cuts until June 15 now.

Wittman Director Peter Moll said the FAA notified him Friday that it would delay plans to slash funding for air traffic control tower staff two months to June 15. The FAA had planned to begin cutting funding for air traffic control staff next week as part of its budget cuts.

Winnebago County’s Aviation Committee cancelled a special meeting scheduled for Monday morning to discuss whether to continue paying for air traffic controllers itself. Moll said it’s likely the issue will be taken up at the committee’s regular, monthly meeting scheduled for May 1.
