It’s all in the semantics

There’s always two sides to every story … even when you don’t think there is a story.

I talked to Lucas yesterday on the phone after school and he was his usual happy self. He was calling as I was preparing to leave work to see if he could have a treat from his Valentine’s bag. I checked with him to make sure he had a good day and had his homework finished.

“Yes, I had a great day,” he said.

Fast forward to my arrival home and finding out that Lucas had gotten himself in a bit of trouble at school for defending the playground snow fort a little too hard against a boy who was trying to kick it down.

I told him I was surprised he didn’t tell me about that on the phone.

“I told you I had a great day. I didn’t say it was a perfect day,” Lucas said.
