Community runs come at a price

I’ve been trying to encourage us as a family to participate in more community fitness-related activities, like last night’s Santa Scamper.

But I’ve noticed that there is a down side to all of it: the expense. Signing up for some of these runs is downright expensive.

We were considering running in the Turkey Trot until I realized that it would be 100 bucks for all of us to participate. I understand that some of these events are fundraisers for organizations, and the money goes to a good cause, but, boy, that’s quite a bit of cash.

I ran in the Thanksgiving event last year with a friend so forking out $20 wasn’t quite as bad, but I’d like for all of us to get in on the action, too, as a way to encourage a lifelong interest in good health.

Being fitness minded sure isn’t cheap.

The cost isn’t necessarily going to curb my interest in participating in more 5Ks and other similar events, but I’m going to have to be a bit judicial in the selection process. After all, it’s going to be one of my goals for 2013.

I guess being healthy comes at a cost!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I’ll see you back on Monday.
