A pattern of compromised sleep

I figured out in the past month that I’ve become a statistic.

I – joining legions of other moms — am among the more than 50 percent who carve out “me time” by cutting back on sleep.

We recently did a story in Family First about a survey of 1,000 moms by mom.me. The survey revealed that 80 percent of moms are making time for themselves. How? By sleeping less.

More than 50 percent of moms are staying up late at night or getting up early to fit in time for them.

I don’t know if it’s because of the holidays or just how things are now with a full load of sports stuff during the week, but I’ve been having a hard time sticking to my normal bedtime and still getting the normal things done plus doing a little something extra for myself.

I’ve been going to a 5:15 a.m. fitness class a couple of times a week for years, so that hasn’t changed, but I’ve been noticing that I’ve been pushing back my normal 10 p.m. bedtime on weekdays more than I used to.

It seems like it’s the only time to talk to Gary, order gifts online, wrap, scrapbook, do Christmas cards, organize, read, sometimes cook or bake, etc. Plus, I need to get my Phil fix on “Modern Family” and watch “Survivor.” Priorities! 

Maybe it’s just the natural ebb and flow of the season and come January, things will return to how they were. We’ll see.
