On The Road Again

Well, it’s been awhile. To be specific, the last time I was shooting a Packers game on the road was two seasons ago right here at Soldier Field when the Packers beat the Bears in the NFC Championship game which sent them to the Super Bowl. That was a great game with some fun images so I was hoping for the same today.

Normally at Lambeau Field, I shoot mainly from the Packers side of the field. It’s just what I’ve always done. But today, Green Bay Press Gazette photographer Evan Siegle was shooting the game from that side so I took to the Bears side. Evan shoots all of the game, home and away, so I didn’t want to step on his toes. To be honest, I was excited to try shooting from a different perspective so being on the Bears sideline was a nice change of pace.

It was a fun game to shoot. At first I wasn’t sure this was going to turn out so well for Green Bay as my pictures consisted of incomplete passes and sacks…

But then came along a man by the name of Jones…James Jones. His first touchdown came right to me so I was happy to get both an action photo and a celebration photo from the play…

His second touchdown happened away from me but I managed to get one image from the play. It’s not too exciting, but considering he had three touchdowns today, I was happy to get something from two of them…

I’ve really enjoyed photographing Clay Matthews, so it was great to see him out their making tackles and getting a sack…

Nothing better than a Matthews sack, but I’m kinda worried about the guy. I can’t even try to explain his celebration dance after the above sack. I shot about 15 images of that celebration and if you run them all together quickly, well, let’s just say it wasn’t pretty…

Being on the road was fun to do again. I enjoyed everything from dining with my co-worker Mike Woods to shooting the game with my friends from all sorts of publications and wire services. A good group of people to say the least. And did I mention this is the third football game in December that I haven’t had to wear gloves? Now that must be a record.

All in all it was a good day, but I did feel a small pull in my left hamstring area. Maybe I’ll ask Clay what he suggests is the best way to treat that type of injury. I just hope he doesn’t expect me to celebrate like he did today when I’m back at Lambeau…;0) Thanks for stopping by…Dan.
