Traffic will no longer flow north and south on Superior and the area will be landscaped.
“This was part of the deal on the table that if we closed three crossings, CN would reopen the trestle across the Fox River,” said Paula Vandehey, the city’s public works director. “The council didn’t approve the third, which was at Locust Street.”
The second “quiet” crossing that was closed to traffic is 8th Street near Pierce Avenue.
Vandehey said negotiations are ongoing with the railroad about the trestle.
