A full list of the six winners is available on the city’s website at Appleton.org. Winning poets are: Cathryn Cofell, Jon Corelis, Tony Dorin, Patricia Kasten, Corinne Kocher and Meredith Mason.
Corelis was among the winning poets that read their work at Wednesday’s council meeting. His poem incorporated the physical viewpoint of the art.
“Look not down on me, passer-by; while you see the sidewalk, I look at the sky,” Corelis read.
Public Works Director Paula Vandehey said the stamps would be pressed into new concrete in June and a special event will host the poets.
Plans call for the city to print maps for the sidewalk poetry that will be scattered throughout the city. Appleton will host an annual contest. St. Paul, Minnesota has a similar sidewalk art program.
