The issue became a flash point after aldermen took issue with a proposed $25,000 relocation bonus for Fox, who lives in Greenville and is now required to move within city limits.
Pressed on the fees Wednesday, Hanna said they are unprecedented, but fit the labor and real estate market.
“In order to entice someone to comply with our residency rule, this is what it’ll take,” Hanna said.
This week, Hanna specified that Fox must move within 12 months, and that the fees would be exclusively for realtor fees and moving expenses.
Wednesday, he said those fees could still reach $20,000.
