Fox Valley Symphony announces youth competition

The Fox Valley Symphony is seeking entrants for its Youth Soloist Competition, which takes place Jan. 12 at Lawrence University in downtown Appleton.

Applications must be postmarked by Dec. 12 and accompanied by a $30 non-refundable deposit.

The competition is for student musicians in grades 10 through 12 who live in the following counties: Brown, Calumet, Door, Florence, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Marinette, Marquette, Menominee, Oconto, Outagamie, Shawano, Sheboygan, Waupaca, Waushara and Winnebago.

It is open to strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, harp, piano and voice students.

The winner of the competition performs with the Fox Valley Symphony on March 18 at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in downtown Appleton.

The winner also receives a $500 cash award sponsored by MAJIC of Music. The student in second place receives $300 and the student in third place receives $200. A $200 MAJIC of Music award goes to the top string performer.
