Tonight: Noah Gundersen visits the Meyer Theatre

Tonight marks the return of the Near Water Concert Series at the Meyer Theatre in Green Bay, with singer/songwriter Noah Gundersen slated to perform along with opening acts Fort Frances and David Dondero.

If you’re unfamiliar with Near Water, it’s a series intended to introduce northeast Wisconsin to indie-leaning, on-the-rise acts. A few months back, the Meyer welcomed the Lumineers to the stage and, well, we can certainly say they have since risen. (Of course, not every Near Water act is going to jump into a jet stream to the mainstream, but having a show like the Lumineers on the resume doesn’t exactly hurt.)

Noah Gundersen, the headliner for tonight’s 7 p.m. show, has gained some fame with his songs “Family” and “He Got Away” showing up on the FX series “Sons of Anarchy.” He’s often (and expected tonight to be) joined onstage with his sister, Abby Gundersen, who plays violin.

His latest EP, “Family,” arrived in August of 2011. For more on Gundersen, you can head here, and for more on tonight’s gig, check out www.meyertheatre.org.

Here are a trio of selected Gundersen tracks that should whet the palate. The first, “Nashville,” is a personal favorite and comes from “Family.” The second is the title track from that same EP which showed up on “Sons of Anarchy.” The third is a newly-released track “Dying Now,” a subdued number that prominently features Abby and seems to really capture the duo’s haunting style.
