Trudging through adulthood kind of makes Halloween not such a thriller of a holiday (unless you have kids … or a collegiate spirit), but that doesn’t mean old coots can’t enjoy some good Halloween music while they gaze out the window at children sporting their best witch, Power Ranger or, heaven forbid, Reality TV Person X.
I’ve assembled a 30-song Spotify playlist filled with an assortment of goodies related to they day often described as “spooktacular.” From the obvious (Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London,” Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”) to movie and TV themes (“Halloween,” “The Walking Dead”) to just outright creepy songs (Nick Cave, surely) to great songs that just sort of have a theme or word in them that can be tied to Halloween (TV on the Radio’s “Wolf Like Me”), here’s the playlist I’ll be enjoying while I hang out in an office during the kids’ time to trick-or-treat. Spooky pop culture, whether it be music, movies or TV, is like Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell on You.” It never goes out of style.
